  • Bergamot essential oil is extracted from the peel of the bergamot fruit, which is a type of citrus fruit that grows mainly in Italy.
  • It is commonly used in skincare, perfumes, and aromatherapy.
  • Bergamot essential oil is known for its cleansing and purifying properties, making it useful for oily or blemish-prone skin.
  • However, it is important to note that bergamot essential oil can be photosensitive and may cause skin irritation if used undiluted, so it is best suited for use on normal to oily skin types.

The four primary components of bergamot essential oil include:
1. Limonene
2. Linalool
3. Alpha-pinene
4. Bergaptene

1. Antibacterial and antiseptic properties:
Making it effective in preventing and treating acne, pimples, and other skin infections.

2. Astringent properties:
Which help to reduce excess oil production and tighten pores, making it beneficial for people with oily skin.

3. Calming effect on the skin:
Can help to reduce redness, inflammation, and irritation, making it useful for people with sensitive skin.

4. Brightening effect on the skin:
Can help to reduce the appearance of dark spots, blemishes, and other forms of hyperpigmentation.

5. Rich in antioxidants:
Which help to protect the skin from damage caused by free radicals and environmental stressors, thus delaying the signs of aging.

How to use

1. Dilute a few drops of bergamot essential oil in a carrier oil, such as coconut, jojoba, or almond oil, and apply it to the skin using a cotton ball or your fingertips.
2. Add a few drops of bergamot essential oil to your daily moisturizer or serum, mix well, and apply it to the face and neck as part of your regular skincare routine.

Things to keep in mind

1. Bergamot essential oil is photosensitive. Therefore, it is important to avoid exposure to direct sunlight or use a sunscreen with a high SPF when using bergamot essential oil on your skin.
2. Bergamot essential oil is highly concentrated and potent, so it should always be diluted with a carrier oil such as coconut, almond, or jojoba oil before applying it to the skin.
3. It is recommended to do a patch test on a small area of skin before using it on a larger area. If you experience any redness, itching, or irritation, discontinue use immediately.
